Learn how the US Senior Pickleball (USSP) Rating System works. Powered by the ELO algorithm, USSP ratings adjust based on certified tournament performance to reflect your true competitive skill level in singles and doubles play.
US Senior Pickleball (USSP) uses its own advanced rating system designed specifically for senior players, powered by the ELO algorithm. This system ensures fair, consistent, and data-driven ratings that accurately reflect each player’s current skill level. Ratings adjust only when you play in USSP Certified Tournaments, keeping your rating purely based on verified competitive play.
How Ratings Adjust
Your USSP rating moves up or down depending on your match results and the ratings of your opponents. If you play in a USSP-rated tournament but are combined with a younger age division, your USSP rating will not be affected.
Similar to the DUPR system, USSP ratings emphasize performance versus expectations, not just wins and losses.
If you perform better than expected, your rating may increase even if you lose.
If you perform below expectations, your rating may drop even if you win.
How Your USSP Rating Is Calculated
Every match you play in a USSP Certified Tournament contributes to your rating. The following factors are considered:
These elements combine to produce a highly accurate reflection of your current competitive standing.
Match Results
Wins raise your rating; losses lower it.
Opponent’s Rating
Beating a higher-rated player results in a greater boost than beating a lower-rated one.
Score Differential
The margin of victory or defeat affects the degree of rating change.
Recency of Matches
Recent matches weigh more heavily, ensuring your rating reflects your current level of play.
